Inside Xbox

Missed the Inside Xbox today? Here is a summary of what was shown.

Bright Memory: Infinity

If you do not know that game. A version of it (the first level) is available on Steam It was apparently made by a single person, and for playing it, I can say that it is a lot of fun!

Dirt 5

Dirt is back for the 5th time!

Scorn

A lot of mystery in that game. Scorn is an atmospheric first-person horror adventure… and that is all we seem to know.

Chorus

An interesting space-ship fighter. Not too much info if that is only dog-fight or RPG style?

“Become Nara and Forsaken, her sentient starfighter, on a compelling, personal journey of redemption. Unlock devastating weapons and mind-bending abilities in a true evolution of the space-combat shooter. Explore breath-taking interstellar vistas, ancient temples and venture beyond our waking reality. Outgun, outwit, and outmaneuver your enemies in an epic quest to free the galaxy from oppression.”

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodline 2

All right, that one is a big one and the trailer is … nice?

Call of the Sea

An adventure game set in the 1930s South Pacific. Explore a lush island paradise and puzzle out the secrets of a lost civilization in the hunt for your husband’s missing expedition.

The Ascent

This look like some steampunk, Cyberpunk style game, solo and co-op action RPG.

The medium

The Medium is a next-gen psychological horror game, Silent Hill style?

Scarlet Nexus

A Japanese futuristic a bit like Astral Chain game:
In a far distant future, humanity’s last hope falls into the hands of an elite group of psionic soldiers, who battle an invincible threat known as, Others.

Second Extinction

Second Extinction is an intense 3 player co-op FPS, where you work as a team to take down large groups of savage mutated dinosaurs

Yakuza Like a Dragon

The last Yakuza game is coming to Xbox Series X!

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

And of course, the first look gameplay trailer! Well … that is “in-game” visual, which is a bit different to the gameplay.

Meta Xbox Clothes collection

In the middle of all the E3, Meta Threads and Xbox decided to team up to offer some new clothes, as shown in the following trailer. Meta Threads is known to offer gamers and sports clothes.

For that collection, they worked on a clothing line that highlights both athletic and technological influences. It maintains an urban stylish tone and functional modern clothing for gamers everywhere.

I am personally not a massive fan of that collection (you can find all of them here). However, there are definitely some other collections on the Xbox website that I like a lot, so that gives a good opportunity to check them out.

E3 Xbox conference recap

Like always there was a lot of games shown in the E3 Xbox conference. So get ready because there is A LOT of videos in here.

One news from Microsoft was also the start of the Xbox Game Pass, starting today for $1 and giving you access to a big library of games. A nex Xbox Elite Controller Serie 2 was also shown and available for preorder.

The video and games that I am not going to show are:

  • – Forza Horizon Lego because for me that is a heresy, I love Forza and I love Lego but they should not be mixed together.
  • – Age of Empire 2, which is a remaster.
  • – State of Decay Heartland
  • – Battletoads
  • and a couple of other games.

Cyberpunk 2077

Xbox had the chance to show a new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077, which includes Keanu Reeves. Yes, THE Keanu Reeves, which is so generous that he gave us the released date … an ouch of April 2020. That is a lot to wait, but well, the Keanu news is helping to wait.

At the same time, they have revealed the Collector Edition which … has way too many inside and that makes it really awesome. Box, figurine, artbook, keychain, guide etc.

The Outer Worlds

The second big trailer was probably The Outer Worlds, with a bit of gameplay, or at least it looks like it. The game is developed by Obsidian. It is made by the creator of Fallout (who is not working with Bethesda anymore) and a lot of people are definitely waiting for it!

Halo Inifinite and Xbox Project Scarlett

No gameplay but definitely a lot of hype in that Halo trailer. The game, however, will be released with the Xbox Project Scarlett next year. The Scarlett is the next console from Microsoft. The only information we had about it was that the loading time will be shorter. Well, thanks for that. Let’s hope that it does offer a bit more than that.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

Another good reveal was the soon to come Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Which is actually an RPG available next year. It does not look like an RPG but wait for more information and video about it.

Bleeding Edge

A new game with is a 4×4 multiplayer, and look completely crazy

Gears of War

Definitely some news about Gear of War, and not at all what we were expectedStarting with Gear 5 Escape which is also a multiplayer mode for the game. And followed by a Termniator character pack. Yes, Terminator from the movie. And there was also a trailer for Gear 5 itself but … without any interest honestly.

Dying Light 2

Yes, the second opus from the series got a trailer and it looks a bit more angry than the first one.

Twelve Minutes and Blair Witch

In the nice new games, I would put Twelve Minutes and Blair Witch. The first one is a game where the hero is in a time loop (probably 12 minutes) so you will need to repeat again and again to gather more information and finally understand what is going one. The second one is based on the movie of the same name and is definitely a horror game.

Elden Ring

A game that needs to be mentioned is Elden Ring, considering that GRR Martin is helping the developer. Yes, the same GRR Martin that created Game Of Throne, so we could expect an interesting story in this game. At least we hope so.

Microsoft Flight Simulator

I almost did not put the trailer, but my god those graphism are really impressive!

American Fugitive, an interesting surprise?

Xbox just dropped on youtube the gameplay trailer for American Fugitive developed by Fallen Tree Games Ltd and distributed by Curve Digital.

What is sure from the trailer is that… it really looks like some old-school GTA, which is definitely a good thing.

In the game you play Will Riley, accused of his farther murder, who escaped to find the real culprit. For that, you will need to establish contact with criminal and survive in this open-world sandbox set in the 80’s.

Despite being posted by Xbox, the game is also available on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. It is available on May 21st for PC and PS4, on 23rd for Switch and 24th for Xbox. It will apparently cost $19.99 in the USA.

Xbox One S All Digital and how it could have been better

Recently Microsoft announced the release of their Xbox One S All-Digital, a disc-free console. The concept is to have a digital library, everything on the cloud.

A very interesting solution but it looks like the Commercial and or Marketing department could not agree on a strategy. Something that seems to happen more and more often in big companies: releasing products without any plan for it and how to make it very successful.

Here are a couple of points Microsoft could work on to make the console even more attractive.

The price

The price is definitely one of the biggest issues. I mean, just go on the Xbox shop (in Uk for that example) and you can see that the All-Digital is only £29 less expensive. Seriously? Why would someone not pay £29 more and being able to use some discs? That offers the opportunity to borrow a game from a friend or buy a very cheap second-hand copy of it. If the console is made for people with a tight budget, that thought should be take into account.

You could say that this comparison is not fair. The All-Digital comes with 3 games while the other with only one. But the 3 free games are:
Minecraft: an old game, which cost less than £17.
Sea of Thieves: a game which is free if you have the Xbox game Pass, a monthly pass to an online catalog of games.
Forza Horizon 3: a 3 years old game.

They could make an effort and at least give Forza Horizon 4 instead of the third.

But honestly, what should have been done a big discount, or free access for some time to the Xbox game pass, that catalog of games I was talking about earlier.
That console is totally made for that, an online library of games. Currently, the pass can be found for roughly £80. That is even a good way to have people being used to that and keep paying for it afterward. I am pretty sure that this is the direction Xbox want to go, and that is a perfect way to jump start it.

The size

Despite being all digital, the console has the exact same size than the one reading discs. I can totally understand in term of costs that having the same box, the same component etc. is way better than redesigning everything. But again that removes an interesting potential: making it smaller, making it more portable.

Damn, I would be happy to be able to travel with my Xbox if it was as small as my laptop or my Nintendo Switch. The success of that last console has even shown the interest for portable gaming. I know that Xbox is working on a service to be able to play anywhere but this could have been a good start for it. Sure it is nice to play on a laptop, but they are not always powerful enough, and depleting batteries.

The specs

If the idea was really to keep the price at more than £200, the hardware could have been upgraded. Or really play the fully digital and having some kind of streaming gaming.

Considering that the Xbox one S all digital, it most likely needs to be permanently connected to the internet  So why not use it to increase the specs without even changing the hardware? Xbox got the X version, which is the console with the best specs available on the market. But for that console, they kept the lower specs.

All of those issues do not make me really confident for the success of that console, but maybe the whole plan was just to get a small sales to boost and get rid of the spare parts to build Xbox. It is just a bit sad to think that it can be much better!
